Every time I start writing this blog about Amanda and Cam’s wedding at Pullman Cayo Coco I end up stopping… It’s just been so hard to find the right words!
My favourite part about destination weddings honestly isn’t the trip, the beaches, or the gorgeous locations. They’re all pretty amazing perks, don’t get me wrong! But the thing that far surpasses all of those is the chance to get to know my clients, their friends, and family on such a personal level before the wedding day.
When I started seeing dress bags and suit bags fill the boarding area at the airport, I walked over and asked if they were travelling with Amanda and Cam. Immediately, Cam’s aunt introduced herself with a big smile and then introduced me to everyone else in the family as they arrived. I knew, right away, that I was travelling with “my kind of people”! Just so friendly and welcoming in every way.

Our Arrival
When we arrived at ‘Pullman Cayo Coco’, a resort along the gorgeous coast of Cuba, I connected to the wifi to check in with my husband. It wasn’t the call I was expecting… I found out that my grandpa had passed away. I knew that he was unwell and in the hospital, but my family and I decided it was best to keep my plans as scheduled and go on the trip. It was hard being away from home, but if there’s any sort of trait that you can say I got from my grandpa, it’s probably in relation to business. In my own little way of honouring all of the accomplishments he made in his life, I tucked everything away and got to work.
In the few days before the wedding, I spent some time adventuring around the resort. I was so excited with a few little hidden gem photo locations that weren’t too far of a walk from where the ceremony was being held. And an early sunset meant beautiful, soft lighting on the beach for portraits! Let me tell you. It did not disappoint! Add in the chance to share some meals with the guests, lounge in the sun by the pool, and getting to meet a donkey named Pablo… Did I mention that I love destination weddings?!
Wedding Day
When the wedding day finally came, it was everything I had hoped it would be and more. Amanda and Cam planned all of their décor to be so simple and elegant. The day flowed together seamlessly thanks to Amanda’s meticulous planning (we’re kindred spirits that way!). Cam’s reaction when he saw Amanda walk down the aisle was like getting to watch him fall in love with her all over again. And Amanda’s dad kept her laughing while they walked to help calm her nerves. It was really just such a beautiful moment!
Reception
During the reception we had some of the best food of my entire trip at the resort’s Italian restaurant. Speeches got underway and I was reminded why this is my favourite part of every wedding reception. A highlight was when Cam’s dad read his son one last nighttime story, “Oh The Places You Will Go” by Dr Seuss. Cue all the tears!
Amanda and Cam danced their own choreography for their first dance. Then just when I thought the night was slowly coming to an end, taking candids of everyone out on the dance floor, Cam pulled out one last surprise and serenaded Amanda with a song he had been rehearsing just for her. He had secretly been taking singing lessons to get ready for the big day! The love these two have for each other isn’t quite like any other I’ve ever seen and it was so amazing getting the opportunity to capture it.
With one last day by the pool with new friends that I had never even met a few short days ago, I took some time to relax in the sun. Then Amanda and Cam came out to the lobby to see me off before I left for the airport!
Once I got home and everyone learned about my grandpa’s passing, messages from Cuba came flooding in over Instagram with so many kind words and well wishes. I can’t thank everyone enough, it truly meant so much to me!
I could say so much more than I already have, but for now, I’ll just let the photos tell the rest of the story :)
